The boy is ill. Acute leukemia. Please help the child!
Vitali Volodin's diagnosis is leukemia.
Dear friends,
Vitali Volodin is a nice smart boy, sociable and positive. He likes sports and computer games, he is a sweet tooth, as most of the kids are. But besides all that Vitali is our “Oplimpic hope” , whom we expect to participate in Winter Olimpic Games in Sochi in 2014.
Now Vitali is experiencing a very difficult period in his life.
After the course of treatment in Kazan hospital had been over Vitali was treated at home and felt well enough. But in Summer 2010 the disease came suddenly back. Now Vitali badly needs bone marrow transplantation.
This operation is a routine one in Germany and their achievements in this field are evaluated as the best. That is why we inquired for the possibility of being operated in Charite Universitaetsmedizin in Berlin. We received a positive answer and the price of 323 137,65 Euro.
Since we failed to find this amount of money, we closed the account for the operation.
But it is still quite possible to find the money to pay the donor.
Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) also joined us in the efforts to help Vitali. We wish they could help sending the boy to Germany for treatment but at least KHL guaranteed coverage of the bill for the search of the donor for Vitali (according to the words of Coordinator of the work with International Donor Register). That is why the procedure of finding the donor has been performed, though the money has not yet been transferred (information for November 22, 2010). But we were told not to worry.
If this help from KHL really comes, I will be very glad to express our most sincere gratefulness and to apologize for our impatience and sometimes sharp words-please, try to understand our feelings: we worry for the child’s life.
The fund-raising for the search of the donor is stopped. I have no words to express my own gratefulness and that of Vitali’s mother and family. Thanks a lot, dear friends!
Now Vitaly is being tested in the hospital in Petersburg. After the tests he will return home and will be waiting for the invitation for transplantation.
Now we are thinking about the post operation period. A very big amount of money will be needed for rehabilitation. These expenses are not supposed to be covered from the budget quota. So, Vitali will need help.
Let’s help Vitali Volodin to conquer the disease and to return to happy life and his favourite sports.

Vitaly will be burried on Saturday, September 24 in his native town of Nizhnekamsk.

Brief report on the situation of the last two months. Olga's husband and little daughter Victoria joined Olga and Vitali in Petersburg not long before the operation. They rented a small apartment quite close to the hospital. Vitali was operated on February 25 . The operation was quite successful. The first two weeks afterwards were very difficult. But now the situation has improved, and Vitali is already HOME WITH HIS FAMILY. He has to visit the hospital several times a week, but since it is not far, there is no big problem. His sister goes to the kindergarten and likes it very much. Olga says that the attitude of the kindergarten teachers to the child is very good. Vitali's step father Oleg has already found a job and works hard to provide living for his family. Vitali looks much better than before the operation. He has grown up, became slimmer, as all the boys of his age. He has already begun to look through the school subjects. He would like to pass the final exam for the 9-th grade. It will be not a very easy task, since he has fallen considerably behind during the illness. But he is ready to do his best. And we all hope he will.

I was in Piter again. The Charity foundation Ad Vita provided accommodations for Olga and Vitali. It is a very small and modest room in the mansard where other people in the same situation live together. Thanks a lot to the Foundation! The room is not a great one but there is no choice. The problem is that as soon as Vitali is dismissed from the hospital after the operation, it will be impossible for him to stay there (it is very wet there and the ceiling is leaking, but the main problem is the 5-th floor without elevator). So, the problem of accommodation is still open. But it is most important now to begin fund raising for the medications (12 000 USD (10 000 EURO) per month!) for a 12 month course. The amount currently available will be enough only for 1,5 months, not any longer! The operation is scheduled for the February 25,2011.

The operation is scheduled for February 25, 2011. January 29, 2011 Vitali and his mother are going to Petersburg to start pre-operation procedures.

At the moment Vitali is back home from Saint Petersburg. He is quite ok and is looking forward to a New Year celebration together with his family. Later in January 2011 he is supposed to receive the invitation from the hospital in Petersburg where he will be operated (bone marrow transplantation). After that he will have to experience a long period of rehabilitation in the same hospital. His mother will be beside him. We all hope for the best. But we realize that not only a lot of care but also a lot of assets will be needed to provide Vitali with all necessary things in post operation period: sanitary care facilities, special nutrition, medications, etc. We will appreciate any help. Let's support Vitali on his way to recovery!
